Role Of Agents & Brokers

Role Of Agents & Brokers

Ontario Mutuals strive to ensure that you can access local insurance protection in a personal way.  Because we think you would rather deal with a neighbour - not a stranger.  We rely on knowledgeable, trustworthy agents and brokers to give you the personal attention required to determine the coverage that's right for you.

Insurance agents and brokers are not only instrumental in advising you on the right insurance product to fit your insurance needs but throughout the process and even after the policy is purchased, their role continues. Agents and brokers will explain the costs and coverage of your options and ultimate policy along with any policy exclusions and limitations and what they mean to you. A yearly review of your policy will be conducted to take into account any changes in policies, possible new products that might be right for you, and any changes in your situation. And when it comes to claims, your agent or broker will be available to help you personally.

How do I choose an insurance agent or broker?

Insurance agents and brokers are licensed to negotiate insurance contracts and to service policyholders. Insurance agents usually represent one insurance company or related groups of insurance companies, while brokers typically represent several insurance companies.

If a friend or family member hasn't already referred you to an agent or broker that acts on behalf of a local mutual company, refer to the LOCATE A MUTAL tab above to determine the contact information of the closest mutual companies in your area.  Although mutual companies can not sell products to you directly, they can refer you to an agent or broker that will assist you.

It is also important that your agent or broker is licensed to sell insurance. All Ontario Mutual agents are licensed by the Financial Services Commission of Ontario (FSCO), and all brokers by the Registered Insurance Brokers of Ontario.
